Draco is a judgmental young man who is incredibly confused as to exactly what he believes in.  He grew up learning that Muggle Borns were dangerous, and Muggles as well, because they were different.  And so when he was younger he simply regurgitated what he was taught by his father especially.  He idolized his father and loved him very much, but with him gone, he finds himself lost.  He was taught that muggles and muggle borns were different and didn't understand wizards, his family holding onto beliefs from ages ago when muggles feared wizards.  In many ways, Draco is more like Grindlewald than he ever was Voldemort, but also very different than both.  He hated the fact wizards were fighting wizards.  He disliked muggle borns because they didn't share the cultural understanding that wizards did, how they had to hide from people they were related to.  In some ways, it was a tinge of jealousy that they were able to be part of both worlds.  Not that he liked Muggles, but a choice would be nice.  To not have to hide who he was, his magical part of him, no matter where he went.  That was the ideals he came up with when he was away at school.  Of course, he didn't seem to account for the fact he antagonized the people who would think those ideals were not a bad way to think, and therefore he was stuck with those who practically worshiped Voldemort.  All he ever wanted was to be a professional quidditch player.

Due to this confusion, Draco has been acting differently than he had been before in his fifth and earlier years.  He's quieter, and more pensive than he had been, instead of just saying whatever came to his mind before.  After all, he was raised to get whatever he wanted and to say whatever he wanted so he never really learned self-control until he was older and found he needed to in order to survive.  Draco tends to bottle up his feelings, pushing them away, which leads to later outbursts of emotion when it all becomes too much - however the fact he can push them away helps with people trying to read his mind.  Still a pure-blood supremacist, he does look down on those who fraternize with 'the enemy' and can be especially cruel to people when he wants to be.  

A coward, he runs from his problems until he can't anymore.  He doesn't like being wrong and will do whatever it takes to convince himself that he is right.  Along with that, Draco also wants to be the best.  He was always showered with affection and then when he got to school and Harry Potter took all the attention away?  He was bitter.  He was supposed to be the center of attention.  He was the main character of this story, not him.  Why was he losing to Hermione in class and Harry in Quidditch?  He pushed himself very hard to try to become better than everyone else, to prove to them he was right, and everyone else should love him.  Draco did everything he could to try to make his father proud, and while his father never said he was a failure, Draco always felt like he was letting him down.  

Draco was the only son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy, a wealthy family mostly from old money as they were both pure-bloods. His father was a death eater who managed to escape the clutches of the ministry by claiming he was under the Imperious curse. Of course having money probably helped. When Draco was born, the first year Voldemort was still there so his father was out a lot, and his mother took over looking over the little Draco Malfoy. After the downfall of Voldemort, Draco had a whole family, not that he remembers a time when his father wasn't there. When he was five years old, he got his first actual broom and he rode it around, though it wouldn't let him go too high. He would ride that thing whenever he got a chance. He never wanted for anything.

When he was seven, he got another broom that was made for Quidditch so it would go up pretty high, and while he wasn't the best at it, he was always encouraged. He fell off his broom once when he was fairly high up and broke his arm, which was quickly mended and his instructor was blamed for it instead of him being a young kid flying too high. He was always told how brilliant he was, how amazing he was at flying on his broom. His parents doted on him all the time and his father even said he was sure Draco would be the top of his class when he attended Hogwarts. Draco was a proud young boy who was used to praises from those around him. If he wanted something, he got it.

Draco also grew up thinking that Harry Potter could possibly be the next Dark Lord that people could rally behind, so when he met Harry when he was eleven and he offered his assistance, but was refused, he was furious. Not only had Harry Potter refused him, the Slytherin Prince, the best and most brightest person in all of Hogwarts, he did it in front of other people. He sent a letter to his father telling him he was wrong about Potter, and took time to break Harry down. He turned Harry in and got him and his three little friends detention, but in the process also got himself detention. His father heard about that and well, detentions the forest ended up stopping as a general rule. Yet there was Potter, stealing the house cup, the youngest seeker in a century, and Draco felt robbed. That was his title, his dream and Harry took it from him.

So in his second year after complaining to his father enough, he was able to bribe his way onto the team, though he was surprisingly good for a second year. Harry might have taken his title of youngest seeker in a century, but he was determined to beat Harry. It was one of the first things he ever had to work for, and boy he had a rough time, but he was determined. If it hurt Harry, he did it. If it hurt Hermione who stole the title of being the top of the class? He did it. How dare the muggle born steal that from him? He shouldn't have to work for it, he was brilliant and he was starting to feel the effects of not being properly prepared for dealing with others around him, for having to work for what he wanted. He felt he was entitled to these things because he grew up just thinking of it as fact, and yet here these gryffindors were challenging what he was taught.

In his third year and he saw Harry's weakness to the dementors, he took full advantage of it. He teased the gryffindor, who prided themselves on bravery, of being afraid. Of course, dementors were scary, but Draco never had to deal with them personally so he never really had to deal with the effects. But oh, the great Harry Potter, who he only saw the successes of, was able to approach the hippogriff. He wanted to prove he was better than Potter and ended up getting injured, and since no beast that should be living should deny him, Draco Malfoy, and embarrass him in front of the class and everyone else when Potter succeeded and he did not? So his father helped pull strings to have the beast put to death. In the end, Buckbeak escaped, and once again he didn't get what he wanted - he didn't get revenge for being beaten. He was never first place in anything despite all his efforts using methods he normally used.

So when Potter was chosen as a fourth champion for Hogwarts? Oh Draco was even more jealous of the boy, so he went out of his way to tease the gryffindor, supplying buttons to support a person he felt empathetic too - after all, Potter stole Cedric Diggory's glory of being Hogwarts's champion and having to share it with the oh so great Harry Potter. Moody freaked him out too, especially that time when he was turned into a ferret, essentially traumatizing him. In the end, Draco did hope that if Cedric didn't win, Harry at least would use those mystical famous powers and win, for Hogwarts. He had pride in his school, and while he didn't like Dumbledore, he loved Professor Snape, and was very close to him. That connection made him love Hogwarts, despite what he might say about almost attending Durmstrang - after all its cool to choose to go to Hogwarts when you had other choices right? But then when Cedric died, Draco felt a pang in his chest for him. In the end, for what happened, Harry was the chosen one and Cedric was just a background nobody. Just like he felt he was being forced into because of Potter and his friends and all their glorious journeys.

His fifth year was really amazing for him honestly. Umbridge was one of his favorite professors, though Professor Snape was still the top one, despite the two not getting along. He joined the Inquisitorial Squad and was able to exact revenge against Harry and his friends and everyone who wronged him. Umbridge was getting rid of all those Potter had to support him. Finally, he could be at the top. Finally, he could take his rightful throne as the best and be looked upon and admired, even if it was because of fear. At this point, he was relishing in being able to finally have a way to fight back and dominate Potter and his friends. However, while he was having fun at Hogwarts, his father was working on a mission, and when he got news of what happened to him at the battle at the ministry, he was broken. His father was dead while he went and played king for things that didn't really matter in the long run. His father was gone and he never even got to say good-bye.

The following summer, Draco wrestled with the different beliefs. His father wasn't around to tell him what to do or what to think. His father was dead because he fought for Voldemort. He was dead because someone killed him on the other side. Wizards were killing wizards, and even if they were blood traitors, Sirius was still a pure-blood. Why didn't he understand? Why did he have to kill his father? He kept going back and forth between being angry at Sirius Black and being angry at Voldemort and being angry at the war in its entirety. Why did they have to fight? He was far from being like Harry Potter, he just wanted the fighting to end, he didn't want to fight. But then Bellatrix took his mother and he wasn't going to lose her too. He fought for her safety, even ending up dueling Harry despite hating the fighting. Why couldn't things go back to how they were when he was little? In the end, Voldemort was defeated, and Draco was reunited with his mother.  Due to the fact he wasn't really much of a participant, he was allowed to continue to go to Hogwarts, as he did end up never casting one of the unforgivables.

So now Draco is in his final year at Hogwarts, and he's more confused than ever about what he believes in. He still dislikes muggles, believing them to not understand wizards and therefore he'd like to avoid them - but he wouldn't hurt a muggle for the sake of hurting a muggle. He does have a slight appreciation for Harry and the other gryffindors at this point, an admiration almost, but he still views them, especially Harry, as someone who gloats about their bravery and accomplishments, and it annoys him to no end. However, he's told himself he would at least try to be civil with them, though he doubts he could ever be their friends. At least... it was over now. Wizards were not fighting wizards, it wasn't a wizard war anymore. He hoped he could reclaim a bit of his previous life before all of this happened while attending Hogwarts.
